Impressive figured mahogany tall secretaire a abattant with columned tabernacle above having a rounded doric Schinkel type pediment. The fall front door also has a figured mahogany writing surface and hidden weights; when open it reveals an attractive interior with 6 small drawers and 2 large ones all line inlaid. The top drawer also has a Schinkel type pediment decoration and below it an maple arched decorative opening imitating stonework. The interior of the opening is also finished in flame mahogany. Below the fall front door there are 3 large drawers as there is a fourth above.There is a large cabinet door on the tabernacle which is flanked by two asymetrical crotch mahogany veneered columns with stamped and gilt tops and bottoms. All exterior doors have mother of pearl escutcheons framed by ornate oval gilt brasses. All large frontal surfaces feature geometrical shapes that provide decorative relief to the horizontal and vertical exterior lines of the secretaire. The rounded frontal corners also provide warmth and elegance to the piece. The interior of the drawers in northern oak. All in finely restored condition with its keys. The back is ink-signed caligraphically "Gotenborg M".
