*These chairs reflect the early Biedermeier period when everything representative of the defeated Napoleon was being rejected. The Germans, Austrians were seeking to simpify their life and these chairs represent such an tendency. No more rich bronze decorations and elaborate carvings, only simple designs that reflected their desired simple daily life. That was the period when Biedermeier trully meant "simple, of the people...etc". However, this was the emergence of a style of tremendous influence in design and architecture ....and it is still affecting us today!
