Outstanding Secretaire Biedermeier of Danish origin with cylinder top bureau, exterior of harmonically bookmatched figured cherrywood throughout the entire piece. The intricate marquetry designs are all finely etched and depict figures from Greek mythology such as Neptune/Poseidon as well as floral and and animal forms.

Once the cylinder top is open it reveals a number of line inlaid and marquetry designs on various drawers, some secret, and a central cupboard with interior drawer. The writing drawer slides outwards and reveals more marquetry, a central tooled leather writing surface convertible to lectern and 2 large sliding door drawers on either side. Below the bureau there are 3 large oak-lined drawers.

The upper section, a marvel of cabinetmaking, with the central door of concave form flanked by 2 further cupboards with convex doors, all with interior drawers. Above them 2 curving balusters with floral and animal designs and a central Doric pediment with further marquetry.

All in excellent original condition with original locks and keys.
