Outstanding 18th century Bureau Secretaire of German origin with cylinder top that rolls open automatically once the sliding writing surface is pulled open. The entire bureau with outstanding contrasting light and dark walnut veneers and intricate exotic wood parquetry of various forms on all sides including the top. There are three small drawers at the top, the middle one serving as a book stand when open. Once the cylinder top rolls up it reveals a number of drawers, some have locks that secure two drawers at a time with one key. The gilt tooled leather writing surface is new and antiqued by an expert leather smith. There are two large drawers below with intricate gilt pulls and original locks and keys. There are four carved and turned tapering legs. In excellent original condition only enhanced by natural hand rubbed French polish. Some small brass pulls and escutcheons possibly not original.
