A REGENCY MAHOGANY CHAISE-LONGUE, with a bergere caned back, the scrolling frame having floral roundels, and upholstered in a faded apricot dupion, on splay legs with brass caps and castors.
PROVENANCE: This chaise longue comes from the estate of Sir John 9th Bt and lady Armytage, formerly of Kirklees Hall, Clifton, Brighouse, West Yorkshire. The Manor of Kirklees was in the Armytage family for almost 500 years , having been conveyed to John Armytage of Farnley Tyas in 1565. The first Baronetcy was granted to Sir Francis Armytage in 1641. The priory had association with the legend of Robin Hood and the outlaw´s grave is reputedly located in its vicinity. Kirklees Hall was later extended to Robert Adam and John Carr and received many notable visitors including Charlotte Bronte
