You are in: home - Antique furniture - Chests of drawers/Commodes - Semainier Secrétaire Francés Louis XVI by Charles Arguyot - SOLD
Fine Louis XVI period semanier-secretaire dating to the end of the 18th century with grey-brown veined marble top under which there is a stamp of the initials CA, probably by Charles Arguyot of rue St. Antoine, Paris, who specialized in creating this type of smaller furniture during that period. There are six drawers and a 7th in the middle, which slides outwards and serves as a fall-front bureau, its four drawers with brass and mother-of-pearl pulls and a writing surface with dark green/blue tooled leather surface, probably original. The exterior with canted corners and primary veneers of kingwood, with tulipwood and rosewood banding. The brass pulls, brass ornaments, locks and key are original. The semainier is in original condition having had a couple previous light repairs mostly in the interior of the side walls and has been just refreshed with several coats of fresh French polish.
