Pair of Biedermeier Tall Commodes

Description

Rare pair of figured mahogany Biedermeier commodes / semaniers and as such with 7 drawers each. Each drawer is veneered with beautiful crotch mahogany. The sides also display finely figured veneers of mahogany. Each commode separates into two main bodies; the pagoda type pediments also separate for ease of transport. The front feet are finely turned and ebonized and the rear feet are of block shape. All the escutcheons are brass and the keys and locks are original. There are slight differences in the shade of the figured mahogany fronts probably due to previous exposure to light. It has been mostly corrected. The pediments also have a slight moulding difference as also the turned feet have some depth difference. The structural and interior wood is northern European pine(pinotea) in exceptionally good condition. Both commodes have been fully restored preserving the wonderful glow of patina of time.
