Description

A George III inlaid mahogany longcase clock by George Clapham Brigg, Lincolnshire(UK).

The brass arched dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary dials of minutes and calendar.The silvered circle at the upper part of the brass dial bears the signature of the clockmaker and the number No.142. The exceptional case of perfect proportions is attributed to Gillow. There are exquisite satinwood, ebony, boxwood and tulipwood inlays forming sunbursts, flames and intricate geometrical figures over the finest figured mahogany. The top is adorned by 3 original brass finials. The main body and the top are flanked by fine reeded columns topped by Corinthian brass capitals. The bottom features outsplayed legs. The mechanism has been completely dismantled, cleaned, assembled and oiled. It rings the hours by a single bell in its interior and bears its weights and winding key. A clock of perfect proportions, extraordinary cabinetmaking with a fine mechanism in perfect working order.
