A jewel of a 19th Century French Bonheur du Jour aka Ladies' Desk in mahogany, kingwood, rosewood and ebony, of bow front and sides with profuse parquetry inlay of satinwood. A superstructure with a French revised clock in the center signed on the porcelain face "Leroy" and "AParia", both prominent families of clockmakers of the 18th and 19th centuries. 2 faux bookcase doors on either side that only open via hidden mechanisms, 2 small drawers below them and a large drawer at the bottom. All interior structure of solid oak. The gilt tooled leather writing surface is original. 4 fine satinwood inlaid tapering legs ending in brass sabots, the tops with gilt brass ornate wide rings. Lovingly restored with organic hand rubbed French polish.
