Antique Bureau Biedermeier Revival - SOLD

Description

Exquisite flame mahogany bureau of the Biedermeier Revival period end of 19th century. The cylinder top reveals a fully fitted interior of convex and concave drawers and cupboard, two of them hidden. There is a sliding writing drawer with a tooled leather writing surface that opens to reveal a large hidden area. Below it there are 2 large bowfront drawers flanked by two decorative columns with carved capitals and there is a third large drawer below them with a ogee molded front. In excellent original condition professionally restored having its keys and original locks.

* Biedermeier furniture was the focus at the Vienna Applied Arts museum in 1896. The many visitors to this exhibition were so influenced by this style and its elegance that a new revival period became popular amongst European cabinetmakers. This revival period influenced the Art Deco style and the various Bauhaus styles.
